Terms and Conditions

Last updated: July 15, 2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of BreakMap.ca (“BreakMap,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By using BreakMap, subscribing to email alerts, or accessing our website, you agree to these Terms.

1. What BreakMap Does

BreakMap provides crime and incident information for Toronto neighbourhoods using publicly available data, including public data from the Toronto Police Service.

BreakMap may display incidents on maps, summarize neighbourhood trends, provide incident notifications, publish monthly crime reports, and send email updates to subscribers.

2. Not an Emergency Service

BreakMap is an informational service only.

BreakMap is not an emergency service, police service, dispatch service, security service, or crime reporting service.

Do not use BreakMap to report emergencies or crimes in progress. In an emergency, contact emergency services directly.

3. No Affiliation With Toronto Police

BreakMap is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the Toronto Police Service, the City of Toronto, or any government agency unless expressly stated.

References to Toronto Police Service, public data portals, neighbourhood names, streets, intersections, or public datasets are for informational purposes only.

4. Public Data Accuracy

Crime and incident data may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, corrected, reclassified, or removed by the original public source.

BreakMap may also process, geocode, map, categorize, summarize, or interpret public data. This processing may introduce errors.

You should not rely on BreakMap as your only source of safety, security, legal, real estate, insurance, or emergency information.

5. Email Subscriptions

You may subscribe to receive once- or twice-daily email updates about crimes or incidents in selected Toronto neighbourhoods or areas, or a monthly city crime report.

By subscribing, you agree that we may send you emails related to your selected alerts and BreakMap service updates.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting team@launchfury.com.

We may modify, pause, limit, or discontinue email updates at any time.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • misuse BreakMap or interfere with its operation;
  • attempt to access systems, data, or accounts without authorization;
  • scrape, copy, or bulk-download the website in a way that harms performance or violates these Terms;
  • use BreakMap to harass, intimidate, discriminate against, or target any person or group;
  • use BreakMap for unlawful purposes;
  • submit false, misleading, or malicious information; or
  • attempt to reverse engineer or bypass security features.

7. No Professional Advice

BreakMap does not provide legal, security, policing, insurance, real estate, or professional safety advice.

Any maps, neighbourhood summaries, statistics, rankings, alerts, or explanations are provided for general informational purposes only.

You are responsible for your own decisions and should consult appropriate professionals where needed.

8. Neighbourhoods, Locations, and Mapping

BreakMap may group incidents by neighbourhood, intersection, approximate location, or other geographic area.

Locations may be approximate. Incident coordinates from public datasets may be rounded, generalized, or associated with the nearest intersection rather than an exact address.

Neighbourhood boundaries, labels, and location groupings may not match official boundaries.

9. Intellectual Property

BreakMap, including its website design, software, branding, text, summaries, layouts, and original content, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Public datasets remain subject to the terms, licences, and conditions of their original providers.

You may use BreakMap for personal, non-commercial informational purposes unless we give you written permission for another use.

Press images published with a monthly crime report may be republished under the terms shown on that report’s press page, including the required credit and link to BreakMap.ca.

10. Third-Party Links and Sources

BreakMap may link to third-party websites, public datasets, maps, news sources, police releases, or other external content.

We are not responsible for third-party websites, data, content, policies, or practices.

11. Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of BreakMap at any time without notice.

We do not guarantee that BreakMap will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, accurate, or error-free.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

BreakMap is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, representations, and conditions, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, availability, and security.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BreakMap and its owners, operators, employees, contractors, service providers, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, safety, opportunity, or business.

  • third-party data or websites;
  • security incidents; or
  • interruption or discontinuation of the service.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BreakMap and its owners, operators, employees, contractors, service providers, and affiliates from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising from your use of BreakMap, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

15. Privacy

Your use of BreakMap is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario.

Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located in Ontario, Canada, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
