About BreakMap
BreakMap maps police-reported crime for Toronto, Burlington, and Oakville, so you can see what is happening in your neighbourhood, compare areas, and get alerts about the places you care about.
A clear view of local crime data
BreakMap is a free crime map and neighbourhood safety tracker for Toronto, Burlington, and Oakville. It turns police-reported incident data into interactive maps, neighbourhood rankings, trend charts, and a monthly Toronto crime report, so anyone can see what is actually happening in their area without digging through raw data portals.
You can browse incidents by neighbourhood, compare crime rates across the city, follow month-over-month trends, and sign up for free email alerts covering the areas you care about.
Where the data comes from
All of the numbers on BreakMap come from official police open data: the Toronto Police Service for Toronto, and the Halton Regional Police Service for Burlington and Oakville. We refresh the data several times a day and rebuild every page from it, so the maps and reports stay current as new incidents are published.
BreakMap is an independent project and is not affiliated with any police service or government agency. If you want the full detail on how incidents are categorized, mapped, and counted, our methodology page walks through it.
Built for residents, movers, and reporters
BreakMap is for anyone who wants a straight answer about safety in their neighbourhood: residents keeping an eye on their street, renters and home buyers comparing areas, and journalists or researchers looking for local crime trends.
The site is free to use, and email alerts are free to subscribe to. We only collect your email address when you sign up for alerts, and we never sell it or share it with third parties. See our Privacy Policy and Terms for the specifics.
